Getting about town on Parade day

THE National Day Parade will be held on Friday at the floating platform at Marina Bay and a total of 15 roads and lanes will be closed to vehicular traffic at different times from 9am.

The roads and lanes which are in the vicinity of the floating platform include Raffles Avenue, between Republic Boulevard and Temasek Avenue, and Esplanade Drive, between Raffles Avenue and Fullerton Road, police said in a statement.

During the event, access to the affected roads will be granted only to authorised vehicles which display the approved label, as well as police and emergency vehicles. Public bus services affected by the road closures will be diverted accordingly.

The police said that traffic delays are also expected along roads such as Raffles Boulevard, Republic Avenue, Bras Basah Road, Nicoll Highway, Esplanade Drive and Marina Mall.

Those travelling to the vicinity of Suntec City, Marina Square and Marina South are advised to use public transport.

Large crowds are expected at the Esplanade Waterfront Promenade, Marina Bay Sands Waterfront and Merlion Park, and police may close off these locations if overcrowding occurs.

Admission to The Float @ Marina Bay will be limited to ticket holders and the gates will open at 4pm.

After the parade, dispersal is likely to be slow due to the large crowd expected in the Marina Bay area, said the police.

As MRT stations at City Hall, Promenade and Bayfront are expected to be crowded after the parade, commuters may instead use stations at Raffles Place, Esplanade, Bugis or Clarke Quay.

Adequate signs will be in place to direct commuters to these MRT stations.
