Europe firms eye SingTel's Optus unit

COMPANIES that have entered into a final round of bidding for SingTel's Australian Optus satellite unit include Paris-headquartered Eutelsat SA and Luxembourg- based SES SA, sources told Bloomberg.

SingTel is seeking more than A$2 billion (S$2.3 billion) for the business, said the sources.

Final offers are due next month.

The sale of Optus Satellite would be the largest telecommunications deal in Australia in more than a decade, data compiled by Bloomberg shows.

With five spacecraft in orbit, the company provides television, radio, phone, Internet data and military signals to Australia, New Zealand and the Antarctic.
