China welcomes US-Russia agreement
CHINA welcomed an agreement signed by Russia and the United States to eliminate Syria's chemical weapons, Foreign Minister Wang Yi said yesterday, during a meeting in Beijing with his French counterpart, Mr Laurent Fabius.
The agreement has relieved the tense situation and creates new prospects for resolving issues over Syria through peaceful means, Mr Wang said.
Mr Fabius said at the meeting: "We still remember that, several days ago, the Syrian government was still denying that it owns chemical weapons and used them. So, now, we have reached a more positive stage where we can focus on finding a proper way of resolving the whole crisis."
Meanwhile, rebel fighters said the world does not care about Syria and have expressed disdain for US President Barack Obama, after he backed away from striking over alleged chemical-weapon attacks.
