Childcare operator works to fight abuse

CHILDCARE operator My First Skool (MFS) sent a letter to all parents of children at its 101 centres islandwide yesterday, detailing measures it will take to further reassure them.

It follows an incident on July 5 where a three-year-old boy at an MFS centre in Toa Payoh Lorong 4 fractured his leg after being mishandled by his teacher. The 51-year-old teacher was arrested and has been sacked.

The measures include setting up an independent review panel to assess complex cases of injury, accident or mishandling.

It also said that staff have been reminded that it is their duty to report "questionable practices" to their supervisors.

Earlier yesterday, Acting Minister for Social and Family Development Chan Chun Sing announced that the licence tenure of the MFS centre in Toa Payoh Lorong 4 has been reduced to six months, from 24 months.
