$5m grant to help preserve our heritage
THE Government launched a grant yesterday to encourage Singaporeans to be active in preserving their cultural heritage.
Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong announced that the National Heritage Board will set aside $5 million for the Heritage Grant scheme, to be disbursed over the next four years.
It will help fund individuals, non-profit interest groups, societies and organisations with little or no financial support as they develop heritage-related projects. These can be in the form of exhibitions or mobile applications, for example.
A call for project proposals will be made next Thursday.
Speaking at the launch of the Singapore Heritage Fest, Mr Lee noted that Singaporeans value not only economic progress, but also cultural development.
He said: "Our heritage is something that belongs to every Singaporean, which each of us can contribute to and help preserve, individually and collectively."
