Train To Busan breaks records with 10m sales
DIRECTOR Yeon Sang Ho's Train To Busan has been setting records since its opening nearly three weeks ago.
The apocalyptic thriller is the first film of the year to attract more than 10 million viewers at local theatres, according to distribution company Next Entertainment World.
In Korean film history,
only 13 other movies have surpassed 10 million viewers.
In a press interview, the movie's lead actor Gong Yoo said he would be thrilled if the film even surpassed five million viewers - a number which none of his previous films had reached.
Considered one of the summer blockbusters of the year along with Operation Chromite, The Last Princess and Tunnel, Train to Busan also broke both presales and opening day records.
It has been released in the United States and Singapore, and will be shown in Australia, France, Hong Kong, Thailand and other countries in the coming weeks.
It was also screened at the Cannes Film Festival out of competition in May.
