    Restaurant Andre wins again

    UP-AND-COMING chefs Kenjiro Hashida of Hashida Sushi and Ivan Brehm of Bacchanalia took top honours at the G Restaurant Awards on Monday.

    Both were honoured in the Best New Restaurant category, with European restaurant Bacchanalia named best new Western restaurant, and Hashida winning in the Asian restaurant category.

    "As the restaurant scene gets more vibrant with new players and ever-changing concepts to cater to more discerning palates, it has also brought about a delicious diversity," said Mr Sylvester Ng, editor of The Peak Selections: Gourmet & Travel.

    Restaurant Andre emerged as Restaurant of the Year for the second year.

    A total of 39 awards were presented at the Pan Pacific Orchard hotel in Claymore Road.

    Given out for the fifth year, the awards are organised by tri-annual magazine The Peak Selections: Gourmet & Travel, an offshoot of Singapore Press Holdings' luxury magazine, The Peak. They aim to recognise restaurants that deliver superb dining experiences.

    An external panel comprising ambassadors and head honchos went incognito to critique the restaurants.

    The restaurants came from a shortlist compiled by food critics Tan Hsueh Yun and Wong Ah Yoke from The Straits Times and Dr Ng King Kang of Lianhe Zaobao.

    Other key awards included the Best Dinner Experience, won by Jaan in the Western category and Shinji by Kanesaka in the Asian category.

    The Peak Selections: Gourmet & Travel is available at bookstores, including Kinokuniya, Times, MPH and Times Newslink. It will also be available on both iOS and Android devices.

    Both the print and digital editions are priced at $18.
