New mum Coco still has it
BEING pregnant did not stop Chinese model-host Coco Chiang, 36, from buying even more slinky dresses.
In town recently to promote her new infotainment programme, Coco's Pregnant Diary, she pointed to her tight tube dress and said: "I thought to myself, I could fit into such dresses after giving birth and continue to wear them."
This sassy attitude is very much on display on her show, currently airing here on cHK (SingTel mio TV Ch 510) on Saturdays. The four-episode series follows her first pregnancy and what happens after she gives birth.
When she was eight months' pregnant, the Hong Kong-based model posed in a near-nude pregnancy photoshoot with her husband's photographer-friend. The photos will be shown on the programme.
"I wanted to take the photos as a keepsake," said Chiang in a mix of Mandarin and English.
"I was amazed at how the tummy could get so big. I felt beautiful when I was pregnant, my skin was glowing. Who knows what I'd look like during my second pregnancy?"
Her husband, jewellery designer Dickson Yung, 42, was proud of her for flaunting her body.
Chiang said: "He was the most excited about the photoshoot and kept asking me to do sexy poses and not to cover up. He was also snapping photos of his own."
She and Yung were married last February in a ceremony at South Africa's Kruger National Park, after 12 years of courtship.
She was then five months' pregnant with their daughter.
Six months after giving birth - daughter Uma was born in July last year - Chiang has shed the 8kg she put on during her pregnancy.
The 1.78m-tall model now weighs a svelte 56kg.
When it comes to parenting, she declared with a laugh that her husband is a "hands-off dad".
She said: "He helped out only during the first few days after the birth, when we were in hospital. After that, he got busy with work, so he didn't have time to help change the diapers or bathe the baby."
Her 66-year-old father regularly visits to look after Uma.
"Sometimes, I worry that my baby will mistake her grandfather for her dad," Chiang joked.
Viewers will get to see her family on the programme.
After entering the finals of a Guangdong modelling contest in 1998, Chiang shot a beer advertisement for San Miguel with comedian Stephen Chow in the early 2000s, and starred in action star Jackie Chan's movie New Police Story (2004).
As she is fluent in Cantonese and Mandarin, she made headway in her career in Taiwan and Hong Kong.
More recently, she starred in Taiwanese idol drama The Queen Of SOP (2012) and Hong Kong drama ICAC Investigators (2011).
Chiang, who was born in Jiangsu province, has no plans to slow down her showbiz career.
She said she hopes to give Uma a baby brother and added: "I'm the kind of mother who doesn't worry too much once I leave the house for work. I trust that she's in the good hands of my family.
"As long as I'm at home, I'll feed her and bathe her. The amount of time you spend with your baby is not as important as quality time."
Coco's Pregnant Diary airs on Saturdays at 8pm on cHK (mio TV Ch 510).
