New Linksys router delivers the goods

LINKSYS' latest Smart WiFi router is its fastest to date, offering speeds of up to 600Mbps (Wireless N) and 1,300 Mbps (Wireless AC).

It has three external antennae, which are removable to enable users to replace them with longer-range or directional antennae.

And there is this so-called beamforming technology to deliver greater network range and higher Wi-Fi speeds. The router is directionally aware of client device locations and steers wireless signals towards these devices for a more stable connection.

Instead of using a CD to set up the router, users can connect to the router via a Web browser on a PC or smart device and follow instructions on a setup wizard.

Does the Linksys router perform as fast as its specifications say it would? Yes, in a simple test involving an older Linksys router and a newer Asus AC router, the AC1900 easily trounced the competition - from simple loading of a webpage to mega Web downloads.

Latency seems to be minimal and quick response is clearly evident.

Since not all PCs/laptops are equipped with AC Wi-Fi, Linksys also supplies a wireless AC USB adapter AC1200.

    How much: $339 (AC1900), $99 (AC1200)
