Mahathir happy with acting debut in sci-fi flick
IN THE upcoming Malaysian movie Kapsul, expect to see a very familiar face.
The historical sci-fi flick, directed by the late Martias Mohd Ali, is set to feature a cameo by former prime minister Mahathir Mohamad.
"I have a small role. I've never done any acting like this before. So I thought why not just go for it," said Dr Mahathir, 90, after watching a preview of Kapsul in Kuala Lumpur recently.
"I just have to act as how I usually am in public," said Dr Mahathir, who attended the preview with his wife Siti Hasmah Mohd Ali.
Kapsul will open in Malaysian cinemas today and it stars Faizal Hussein as a high-tech security expert named Zohri Ibrahim. After making a bet with a few friends, Zohri steals a time capsule planted long ago by Dr Mahathir, which contains his vision for year 2020.
Once the capsule is activated, Zohri is taken on a journey through time where he learns about the struggles of the generation before him.
Dr Mahathir said that he had to shoot more than one take for his scene. "I asked for payment but they didn't want to give me," he said, jokingly.
When asked if he would act again, the former premier said he would feel nervous about it. However, he said: "At least I get to tell people that I've acted before."
Dr Mahathir gave Kapsul rave reviews and was impressed by its patriotic elements. The movie also stars Rahim Razali, Ahmad Tarmimi Siregar, Adlin Aman Ramli and Irfan Khairi.
