It's a beach wedding for Tata Young
THAI-AMERICAN pop star Tata Young has wed her beau, Chatadul Seenapongpipit, in a private ceremony on a beach in Phuket.
According to a report in The Nation, businessman Chatadul proposed to her on May 25.
The star's entourage was spotted on a flight to Phuket, and it became clear that the couple were planning a private ceremony.
The 34-year-old star has been dating Mr Chatadul on and off since they first met more than 15 years ago, and their latest hook-up caused a sensation after Young mentioned their relationship on a TV talk show.
"My ultimate dream is to become a mother. Motherhood is a miracle," she said on the show.
In 2008, the singer was briefly engaged to Prem Busarakamwong, the heir to Fairtex Boxing Gym, but they separated after dating for four years.
Mr Chatadul, who is a few years older than her, holds a Master of Business Administration degree from the University of Liverpool. He is the co-owner of Iguana Beach Bar in Phuket.
Young, born born Amita Marie Young, broke into the Thai pop-music scene at the age of 14.
Her self-titled debut album came out in 1995 and broke records by selling a million copies in five months. After five studio albums with GMM Grammy, Young signed on with Sony Music.
She broke into Asia with hits Sexy, Naughty, Bitchy and I Believe in 2004.
She performed in Singapore in May after taking a few years off due to illness.
"I had hypothyroidism and I gained a lot of weight, and it was tough to be in front of the camera. Although my confidence was always there, I used to get easily tired. So I took a break, got myself together, and finally, now I'm well and fit. I feel healthy," she told The Straits Times in May.
