WILL wedding bells soon ring for Taiwanese singer Elva Hsiao and her Singapore beau?

During a recent meal in Taipei with friends, Hsiao and her boyfriend, Singapore businessman Elroy Cheo, were said to be discussing the date of their engagement, Apple Daily Taiwan reported on Sunday.

Hsiao, 35, has reportedly been dating Mr Cheo, who is in his early 30s, for about 10 months. His sister Arissa is the wife of American-born Taiwanese singer Van Ness Wu.

At the meal, the date of Hsiao and Mr Cheo's engagement was said to be Nov 27.

Apple Daily Taiwan also noted that friends of Hsiao have been calling her "Mrs Cheo" for some time.

Hsiao later denied that there was any engagement talk, but confirmed a rumour that Mr Cheo had issues paying for the meal with his credit card and she had to pay instead.

However, she added that Mr Cheo returned her the money when he got home.

Taiwanese actress Cheryl Yang, who was at the meal, also said there was no talk of an engagement.

Last week, Hsiao was asked if she would get married this year, to which the singer reportedly said that "these things need an impulse" and suggested that a wedding could even happen next month if the "feeling comes around".

Hsiao and Mr Cheo were also seen leaving their "love nest" to have a meal with the latter's parents, said reports last week. They later went to visit a property and, at one point, the singer was said to have moved her hand to her tummy.

A spokesman for Hsiao later clarified that "a wedding was not being planned yet" and that she was currently "going with the flow".

The spokesman added that Mr Cheo's father had wanted to discuss investment matters and Hsiao had gone along to accompany him.
