Dinosaurs stomp to box-office top spot
JURASSIC World ruled at the weekend box office with US$102 million (S$136 million) for Universal, handing Pixar a second-place opening for the first time.
Jurassic World's record-breaking opening pulled in US$398.2 million in North America and shattering US and global opening records, estimates showed on Sunday.
The fourth film in the Jurassic Park series, Jurassic World returns to the famous island featured in the original film and follows an experiment gone wrong at a dinosaur theme park.
The film's strong performance put Pixar's Inside Out - an animated film about the emotions inside the mind of a young girl, which has received rave reviews - in second spot in its debut weekend with US$91.1 million, estimates from Exhibitor Relations said.
That marks the first debut outside the top spot for animation studio Pixar since its first film was released in 1995.
