Descendants Of The Sun ballad shoots to top of charts
HALLYU king Kim Jun Su of JYJ has jumped on the Descendants Of The Sun bandwagon with the release of his newest single, How Can I Love You, as part of the drama series' soundtrack.
The romantic ballad single, which was featured in the penultimate episode of the smash-hit KBS TV drama on Wednesday night, was released yesterday.
It quickly shot to the top spot on all the country's major music sites, including Melon, Naver and Mnet.
The official music video for How Can I Love You was also unveiled yesterday.
Kim is no stranger to lending his vocals to Song Joong Ki's silver-screen roles.
In the past, the K-pop idol was featured on the official soundtracks for the actor's dramas like Sungkyunkwan Scandal and Innocent Man.
Descendants Of The Sun, starring Song and Song Hye Kyo, is the country's latest "it" TV drama, surpassing a number of international ratings of SBS' record-breaking My Love From The Star series, which aired in late 2013.
The show beat its own viewership record yesterday, capturing 34.8 per cent of viewers across the country for its latest episode - up 1.3 percentage points from the previous week, according to Nielsen Korea.
The craze has even sparked the release of new emoticons featuring the three main soldier characters on the show.
The emoticons depict actors Song Joong Ki, Jin Gu and Kim Ji Won with short comical captions of the drama's hit lines.
Users of KakaoTalk, a mobile and PC messenger program, can use these emotions in their chats.
The emoticons were launched by TV network KBS yesterday, according to Bliss Media, a Seoul-based public-relations agency for the drama.
