PRIMA Food is best known for its PrimaDeli bakery outlets. The company's latest venture, iBake, is another feather in its cap.

Located on the upper deck of The Star Vista, the 40-seat upscale bakery-cafe by the home-grown flour-milling pioneer aims to showcase the brand's range of state-of-the-art Premium Frozen Dough.

At iBake, you can expect a fine selection of pot pies, freshly-baked artisanal breads, pastries and gourmet sandwiches.

At a recent food tasting, I kick-started my meal with the Seafood Chowder Pot Pie ($6.80), a brimming concoction of chunky clams, mussels, prawns, dried scallops, carrots and potatoes in a creamy base, served in a bread bowl. It's a lot of bang for your buck, but the rich sauce unfortunately masked much of the tasty seafood essence of the dish.

Carb lovers can sample iBake's wares through the petite bread or pastry basket ($8), an assortment of bite-sized speciality breads that includes the Petite French Stick with Milk Cream.

There's also the Petite Gruyere Cheese, a batard bun with the nutty flavour of melted Swiss Gruyere cheese, and the Petite Anchovy Crossiant, which features a light and buttery croissant infused with a mild hint of fresh garlic and anchovy.

For something more substantial, the Kurobuta Ham and Camembert Cheese Baguette Sandwich ($8.50), served with crushed black pepper and gourmet butter on crusty baguette, hits the spot, as does iBake's classic cheddar cheese-topped Hamburger ($12.80).

Non-meat-eaters shouldn't feel left out. The Caprese Tartine ($8.50) - a medley of grilled capsicums, eggplant, zucchini, olive pate and sun-dried tomatoes lavished with garlic olive oil, mozzarella cheese and fresh basil leaves - is invigorating.

Or try the rich and aromatic Tofu Avocado sandwich ($8.50), a vegetarian ensemble of pan-fried tofu, avocado slices and enoki mushrooms well-marinated in sesame sauce.

For dessert, the Danoise a la Myrtille (Blueberry Danish, $5.80) or the Twin Cream puff ($4) are perfect for those with a sweet tooth.

iBake serves daily from 10am to 10pm on Mondays through to Thursdays, 10am to 11pm on Fridays and Saturdays and 8am to 10pm on Sundays.
