More theme parks to pop up in Iskandar Malaysia
ISKANDAR Malaysia is set to become a regional theme-park hub with more attractions expected to be set up.
State Tourism, Trade and Consumerism committee chairman Tee Siew Kiong said the growth corridor will have eight theme parks in the next three to five years.
He declined to give more details, adding that it was normal for discussion to take time between the authorities and operators.
It is learnt that the talks involved the Iskandar Regional Development Authority with operators from Australia, Indonesia, Japan, Europe and North America.
The size of the new theme parks will range between 20.33ha and 40.46ha.
One of them will be an indoor IT-based attraction similar to one in Japan, which is popular with IT-savvy youth and those into video games.
The investment for the new theme parks could range from RM500 million (S$166.7 million) to RM1 billion.
Iskandar Malaysia currently has Legoland Malaysia Theme Park, Hello Kitty Indoor Theme Park @ Puteri Harbour, Angry Birds @ JBCC and Mount Austin water theme park.
