DBS chairman to head Wages Council
CHAIRMAN of DBS Group Holdings Peter Seah has been appointed head of the National Wages Council (NWC).
He will succeed Lim Pin, 79, who held the position from 2001 before stepping down last year, when Mr Seah, 68, began serving as deputy chairman.
Mr Seah is chairman of both DBS Group Holdings and DBS Bank, as well as chairman of Singapore Health Services and LaSalle College of the Arts. He will hold on to these roles even after taking the helm at NWC.
The Ministry of Manpower said that Professor Lim persuaded firms to adopt performance-driven pay packages which protected jobs during difficult periods.
Prof Lim said: "(I am) glad to have contributed to strengthening of the crucial partnership between the tripartite partners in building a strong economy for an inclusive society."
Manpower Minister Tan Chuan-Jin said: "NWC continues to play an important role in guiding sustainable wage adjustments for Singaporeans."
The council will convene later this month ahead of developing its annual wage guidelines next month.
Members of the public have until May 4 to share their views with NWC.
