Get the most out of your gym membership

MANY people buy a gym membership, but don't actually use it. Or, they go to the gym once or twice, then quit.

What that amounts to is no fitness gains and money wasted.

However, there are ways to motivate yourself to use that membership.

Here are some tips from Australia's The Telegraph:

    Keep things fresh

    Routine is a motivation-killer.

Make it your mission to try one new piece of gym equipment a week. Don't be intimidated if you don't know what you're doing. Ask one of the trainers or instructors at the gym how to use the machine.

Even if you're a beginner, don't be ashamed to start with the lightest weight. Move to heavier weights or resistance when you've built up enough strength, or are used to the motions.

    Book a training session

Personal training can give you new ideas. Gyms often offer packages with trainers and, even if you treat yourself to an individual training session only once a month, you'll get benefits from simply learning something new.

If you want to try just one session, tell your trainer your goal is to formulate a plan to expand your current workouts.

    Find a buddy

Sometimes, just knowing that someone is counting on you will get you moving.

Find a gym buddy and set up times to go to the gym together. This will make it more likely that you'll show up.
